"(kin selek shun): a phenomenon of inclusive fitness, used to explain altruistic behaviour between related individuals" [Campbell, Biology 4th Edition]
![]() In a beehive, there is only one female who is allowed to reproduce: the queen bee. The sisters of the queen bee, which are the worker bees, usually take care of the offspring. This is because the offspring have similar traits to them because they are related by blood. So, despite the fact that the worker bees are unable to reproduce and produce their own offspring, by aiding the survival of their sisters' children, they are able to pass on the family's genes.
